Wedding Poems: 30 Not At All Cheesy Ideas For Your Ceremony

Wedding Poems: 30 Not At All Cheesy Ideas For Your Ceremony

Saya studied poetry during undergrad and (briefly) in grad school. While I wasn’t super into traditional poems or abstract poems, I was a sucker for well-done non-cheesy love poems, kamu tahu, the kind just made to be wedding poems.Weddig ceremony backdrop with words "30 wedding poems you'll love"

So when the time came to court a new beau, whip up a valentine, or give a heartfelt speech, I was always ready with a bounty of words that gave me goosebumps.

When I discovered that APW has done plenty of themed poetry roundups, a few posts pada perkahwinan readings, and an open thread on our favorite wedding poems, I was pretty excited. Walau bagaimanapun, I quickly realized we were missing an ultimate wedding poems list, one that could save you from searching through a million posts/comments to find the right wedding poems for your wedding ceremony. (Plus, there were some serious contemporary gems missing.)

jadi, I’m pleased to present thirty of the most epic wedding poems to cover any of your reading needs for your wedding ceremony.

30 wedding poems (that aren’t cheesy)

1. “Variation on the Word Sleep” by Margaret Atwood

I would like to watch you sleeping.
I would like to watch you,
sleeping. I would like to sleep
with you, to enter
your sleep as its smooth dark wave
slides over my head

and walk with you through that lucent
wavering forest of bluegreen leaves
with its watery sun & three moons
towards the cave where you must descend,
towards your worst fear

I would like to give you the silver
branch, the small white flower, yang satu
word that will protect you
from the grief at the center
of your dream, from the grief
at the center. I would like to follow
you up the long stairway
sekali lagi & become
the boat that would row you back
carefully, a flame
in two cupped hands
to where your body lies
beside me, and you enter
it as easily as breathing in

I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
sahaja. I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.

2. “The Privileged Lovers” oleh: Rumi

The moon has become a dancer
at this festival of love.
This dance of light,

This sacred blessing,
This divine love,
beckons us
to a world beyond
only lovers can see
with their eyes of fiery passion.

They are the chosen ones
who have surrendered.
Once they were particles of light
now they are the radiant sun.

They have left behind
the world of deceitful games.
They are the privileged lovers
yang mencipta dunia baru
with their eyes of fiery passion.

3. “Kimia” oleh: Nayyirah Waheed

kimia
ialah
awak
menyentuh lengan saya
dan
ia
membakar fikiran saya.

—banjir

4. “Disentuh Malaikat” oleh: Maya Angelou

Kami, tidak biasa dengan keberanian
orang buangan dari kegembiraan
hidup bergelung dalam cengkerang kesunyian
sehingga cinta meninggalkan bait sucinya yang tinggi
dan datang ke pandangan kita
untuk membebaskan kita ke dalam kehidupan.
Cinta tiba
dan dalam keretanya datang kegembiraan
kenangan lama keseronokan
sejarah kuno kesakitan.
Namun jika kita berani,
cinta mematahkan rantai ketakutan
dari jiwa kita.
Kami dibebaskan dari rasa malu kami
Dalam siram cahaya cinta
kita berani berani
Dan tiba-tiba kita nampak
cinta itu merugikan kita semua
dan akan menjadi.
Namun ia hanyalah cinta
yang membebaskan kita.

5. "Dikalahkan oleh Cinta" oleh: Rumi

Langit bercahaya
oleh kemegahan bulan

Begitu berkuasa
Saya jatuh ke tanah

Kesayangan anda
telah membuat saya yakin

Saya bersedia untuk meninggalkan
kehidupan duniawi ini
dan menyerah diri
kepada keagungan
tentang Wujudmu

6. "Keinginan"oleh: Alice Walker

Keinginan saya
sentiasa sama; di mana sahaja Kehidupan
deposit saya:
Saya mahu melekat jari kaki saya
& tidak lama lagi seluruh badan saya
ke dalam air.
Nak goncang penyapu gemuk
& sapu daun kering
bunga lebam
serangga mati
& habuk.
Saya mahu berkembang
sesuatu.
Nampak mustahil keinginan itu
kadang-kadang boleh berubah menjadi pengabdian;
tetapi ini telah berlaku.
Dan itulah cara saya bertahan:
bagaimana lubang
Saya berhati-hati menjaga
di taman hatiku
tumbuh hati
untuk mengisinya.

7. "Langit Hari"oleh: Hafiz

Biarlah kita seperti
Dua bintang jatuh di langit hari.
Jangan biarkan sesiapa tahu kecantikan kita yang agung
Sambil kita berpegangan tangan dengan Tuhan
Dan bakar

Menjadi kewujudan suci yang menentang—
Itu melebihi

Setiap penerangan tentang ekstasi
Dan cinta.

8. “Kanak-kanak Berlari”oleh: Rumi, Terjemahan oleh: Coleman Barks bersama John Moyne

Saya pernah pemalu.
Awak buat saya menyanyi.

Saya pernah menolak barang-barang di meja.
Sekarang saya menjerit untuk lebih banyak wain.

Dalam maruah yang muram, Saya pernah duduk
di atas tikar saya dan berdoa.

Sekarang kanak-kanak berlari melalui
dan buat muka pada saya.

9. “Saya Dapat Kin”oleh: Hafiz

Tumbuhan
Supaya hati anda sendiri
Akan membesar.

cinta
Maka Allah akan berfikir,

“Ahhhhhh,
Saya mempunyai saudara dalam badan itu!
Saya harus mula menjemput jiwa itu
Untuk kopi dan
Rolls.”

Nyanyi
Kerana ini adalah makanan
Dunia kita yang kelaparan
Keperluan.

ketawa
Kerana itulah yang paling suci
Bunyi.

10. “Sumpah Perkahwinan”oleh: Sharon Olds

Saya tidak berdiri di mezbah, Saya berdiri
di kaki tangga canselor, bersama kekasihku,
dan menteri berdiri di atas anak tangga
memegang Bible yang terbuka. Gereja
Kami berdiri
bersebelahan antara satu sama lain, menangis sedikit
dengan rasa takut dan kagum. Dalam hal yang sebenar, kami telah berkahwin
malam pertama itu, atas katil, kami telah
berkahwin dengan badan kita, but now we stood
in history—what our bodies had said,
mouth to mouth, we now said publicly,
gathered together, death. Kami berdiri
holding each other by the hand, yet I also
stood as if alone, for a moment,
just before the vow, though taken
years before, took. It was a vow
of the present and the future, and yet I felt it
to have some touch on the distant past
or the distant past on it, I felt
the silent, dry, crying ghost of my
parents’ marriage there, somewhere
in the bright space—perhaps one of the
plummeting flies, bouncing slightly
as it hit forsaking all others, then was brushed
away. I felt as if I had come
to claim a promise—the sweetness I’d inferred
from their sourness; and at the same time that I had
come, congenitally unworthy, to beg.
And yet, I had been working toward this hour
all my life. And then it was time
to speak—he was offering me, no matter
what, his life. That is all I had to
buat, that evening, to accept the gift
I had longed for—to say I had accepted it,
as if being asked if I breathe. Do I take?
Saya. I take as he takes—we have been
practicing this. Do you bear this pleasure? Saya.

11. “[saya bawa hati awak bersama saya(saya bawa masuk]"oleh: e.e. cummings

saya bawa hati awak bersama saya(saya bawa masuk
my heart) I am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, sayangku; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet) I want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

Awak bukan siapa-siapa sejak saya sayang awak.
Oh izinkan saya mengingati awak seperti sebelum awak wujud.

Hujan menanggalkan pakaiannya.

Burung pergi, melarikan diri.
Angin. Angin.
Saya hanya boleh melawan kuasa lelaki.
Ribut membasahi daun-daun gelap

malah payudara anda berbau.
Sementara angin sedih pergi menyembelih rama-rama

Begitu banyak kali kita telah melihat bintang pagi terbakar, kissing our eyes,
and over our heads the gray light unwind in turning fans.

My words rained over you, stroking you.
A long time I have loved the sunned mother-of-pearl of your body.
I go so far as to think that you own the universe.
I will bring you happy flowers from the mountains, bluebells,
dark hazels, and rustic baskets of kisses.
I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.

13. “The Ache of Marriage”oleh: Denise Levertov

The ache of marriage:

thigh and tongue, beloved,
are heavy with it,
it throbs in the teeth

We look for communion
and are turned away, beloved,
each and each

It is leviathan and we
in its belly
looking for joy, some joy
not to be known outside it

two by two in the ark of
the ache of it.

14. “A Great Need”oleh: Hafiz

Out
Of a great need
We are all holding hands
And climbing.
Not loving is a letting go.
Listen,
The terrain around here
Is
Far too
Dangerous
Untuk
That.

15. “We” oleh: Nayyirah Waheed

kita
return to each other in waves.
this is how water
loves.

16. “love is a place”oleh: e.e. cummings

cinta adalah tempat
& through this place of
love move
(with brightness of peace)
all places

yes is a world
& in this world of
yes live
(skilfully curled)
semua alam

17. “Sangat Bahagia”oleh: Naomi Shihab Nye

Sukar untuk mengetahui apa yang perlu dilakukan dengan begitu banyak kebahagiaan.
Dengan kesedihan ada sesuatu untuk digosok,
luka untuk dirawat dengan losyen dan kain.
Apabila dunia jatuh di sekeliling anda, anda mempunyai kepingan untuk diambil,
sesuatu untuk dipegang di tangan anda, seperti potongan tiket atau pertukaran.

Tetapi kebahagiaan melayang.
Ia tidak memerlukan anda untuk menahannya.
Ia tidak memerlukan apa-apa.
Kebahagiaan hinggap di bumbung rumah sebelah, menyanyi,
dan hilang apabila ia mahu.
Anda gembira sama ada.
Even the fact that you once lived in a peaceful tree house
and now live over a quarry of noise and dust
cannot make you unhappy.
Everything has a life of its own,
it too could wake up filled with possibilities
of coffee cake and ripe peaches,
and love even the floor which needs to be swept,
the soiled linens and scratched records…..

Since there is no place large enough
to contain so much happiness,
you shrug, you raise your hands, and it flows out of you
into everything you touch. You are not responsible.
You take no credit, kerana langit malam tidak mengambil kredit
untuk bulan, tetapi terus memegangnya, dan kongsikannya,
dan dengan cara itu, diketahui.

18. “tempat yang saya tidak pernah pergi, dengan senang hati melampaui"oleh: e.e. cummings

tempat yang saya tidak pernah pergi, dengan senang hati melampaui
sebarang pengalaman, mata anda mempunyai kesunyian mereka:

anda sentiasa membuka kelopak demi kelopak sendiri apabila Musim Bunga dibuka

my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

19. “It’s all I have to bring today (26)" oleh: Emily Dickinson

It’s all I have to bring today—
ini, and my heart beside—
ini, and my heart, and all the fields—
And all the meadows wide—
Be sure you count—should I forget
Some one the sum could tell—
ini, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which in the Clover dwell.

20. “Having a Coke with You”oleh: Frank O’Hara

is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irún, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona
partly because in your orange shirt you look like a better happier St. Sebastian

and the portrait show seems to have no faces in it at all, just paint
you suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever did them

I look
at you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the world
except possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frick
which thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together the first time
and the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurism
just as at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase or
at a rehearsal a single drawing of Leonardo or Michelangelo that used to wow me
and what good does all the research of the Impressionists do them
when they never got the right person to stand near the tree when the sun sank
or for that matter Marino Marini when he didn’t pick the rider as carefully
as the horse

it seems they were all cheated of some marvelous experience
which is not going to go wasted on me which is why I am telling you about it

21. [tidak bertajuk] oleh: Mindy Nettifee

if a man is only as good as his word,
then I want to marry a man with a vocabulary like yours.

the way you say “dicey” and “delectable” and “octogenarian”
in the same sentence—
that really turns me on,
the way you describe the oranges in your backyard
using “anarchistic” and “intimate” in the same breath.

i would follow the legato and staccato of your tongue
wrapping around your diction
until listening become more like dreaming
and dreaming became more like kissing you.

i want to jump off the cliff of your voice
ke dalam bunuh diri aliran kesedaran anda.
i want to visit the place in your heart where the wrong words die.
i want to map it out with a dictionary and points of brilliant light
until it looks more like a star chart than a strategy for communication.
i want to see where your words are born.
i want to find a pattern in the astrology.

i want to memorize the scripts of your seductions.
i want to live in the long-winded epics of your disappointments,
in the haiku of your epiphanies.
i want to know all the names you’ve given your desires.
i want to find my name among them,
‘cause there is nothing more wrecking-sexy than the right word.
i want to thank whoever told you there was no such thing as a synonym.
i want to throw a party for the heartbreak that turned you into a poet.

and if it is true that a man is only as good as his word
then, sweet jesus,
let me be there the first time you are speechless,
and all your explosive wisdom
becomes a burning ball of sun in your throat,
and all you can bring yourself to utter is, oh god,
oh god….

22. “Peanut Butter”oleh: Eileen Myles

I am always hungry
& wanting to have
sex. This is a fact.
If you get right
down to it the new
unprocessed peanut
butter is no damn
baik & kamu patut
buy it in a jar as
always in the
largest supermarket
kamu tahu. dan
I am an enemy
of change, sebagai
kamu tahu. Semua
the things I
embrace as new
are in
fact old things,
re-released: berenang,
the sensation of
being dirty in
body and mind
summer as a
time to do
nothing and make
no money. Prayer
as a last re-
sort. Pleasure
as a means,
and then a
means again
with no ends
in sight. I am
absolutely in opposition
to all kinds of
goals. I have
no desire to know
where this, apa sahaja
is getting me.
When the water
boils I get
a cup of tea.
Accidentally I
read all the
works of Proust.
It was summer
I was there
so was he. Saya
write because
I would like
to be used for
years after
my death. Not
only my body
will be compost
but the thoughts
I left during
my life. During
my life I was
a woman with
hazel eyes. Out
the window
is a crooked
silo. Parts
of your
body I think
of as stripes
which I have
learned to
love along. Kami
swim naked
in ponds &
Saya menulis menjadi-
belakang awak
belakang. Fikiran saya
tentang awak
tidak tepat
dilarang, tetapi
ditinggikan kerana
mereka tidak berguna,
tidak diniatkan
untuk mendapatkan anda
kerana saya ada
awak & awak sayang
saya. Ia lebih
seperti taman permainan
tempat saya bermain
dengan renungan saya
daripada anda sehingga
awak kembali
dan ke dalam
sebenar awak saya
sampai tenggelam
gigi saya. Dengan
awak saya tahu caranya
untuk bertenang. &
jadi saya bekerja
belakang awak
belakang. yang mana
adalah indah.
alam semula jadi
adalah di luar kawalan
awak beritahu saya &
begitulah
baik tentang
ia. Saya kurang sopan
jatuh cinta dengan awak,
tersingkir oleh
semua baru anda
rambut putih

kenapa tidak sepatutnya
sesuatu
saya selalu ada
dikenali sebagai
sangat best di sana
ialah. I love
you from my
childhood,
starting back
there when
one day was
just like the
rest, random
growth and
breezes, constant
cinta, a sand-
wich in the
middle of
hari,
a tiny step
in the vastly
conventional
path of
the Sun. Saya
squint. Saya
kejap. Saya
take the
ride.

23. “Habitation”oleh: Margaret Atwood

Marriage is not
a house, or even a tent

it is before that, and colder:

the edge of the forest, the edge
of the desert
the unpainted stairs
at the back, where we squat
outdoors, eating popcorn

where painfully and with wonder

at having survived
this far

we are learning to make fire

24. “This Marriage”oleh: Rumi

May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk,
this marriage, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.

25. “Witch-Wife”oleh: Edna St. Vincent Millay

She is neither pink nor pale,
And she never will be all mine;
She learned her hands in a fairy-tale,
And her mouth on a valentine.

She has more hair than she needs;
In the sun ’tis a woe to me!
And her voice is a string of coloured beads,
Or steps leading into the sea.

She loves me all that she can,
And her ways to my ways resign;
But she was not made for any man,
And she never will be all mine.

26. “Admonitions To A Special Person”oleh: Anne Sexton

Watch out for power,
for its avalanche can bury you,
salji, salji, salji, smothering your mountain.

Watch out for hate,

Awas kawan,
kerana apabila anda mengkhianati mereka,

pissing on your own child-bed.

Watch out for love
(unless it is true,
and every part of you says yes including the toes) ,
it will wrap you up like a mummy,
and your scream won’t be heard
and none of your running will end.

cinta? Be it man. Be it woman.
It must be a wave you want to glide in on,
give your body to it, give your laugh to it,
give, when the gravelly sand takes you,
your tears to the land. To love another is something
like prayer and can’t be planned, you just fall
into its arms because your belief undoes your disbelief.

Special person,
kalau saya jadi awak saya tak ambil peduli
kepada teguran daripada saya,
dibuat agak daripada kata-kata anda
dan agak keluar dari saya.
Satu kerjasama.
kecuali beberapa, kecuali saya menganggap awak seperti pokok muda

tapi nak pecahkan cermin mata kristal
dalam perayaan,
untuk awak,
apabila kerak gelap dibuang
dan anda terapung di sekeliling
seperti belon yang berlaku.

27. “Tentang Perkahwinan”oleh: Denise Levertov

Jangan kurung saya dalam perkahwinan, I want

perkahwinan, an
pertemuan—

Saya memberitahu anda tentang
lampu hijau daripada
Mungkin

(selubung sepi melanda
taman pusat bandar,
lewat

Sabtu selepas
tengah hari, panjang
bayang-bayang dan sejuk

udara, bauan
rumput baru,
daun segar,

mekar di ambang
banyak-

dan burung yang saya temui di sana,
burung-burung pejalan kaki memutuskan perjalanan mereka,

topeng Venice hitam

and with them the three douce hen-birds
feathered in tender, lively brown—

Saya berdiri
a half-hour under the enchantment,
no-one passed near,
the birds saw me and

let me be
near them.)

It’s not
irrelevant:
I would be
met

and meet you
jadi,
in a green

airy space, bukan
locked in.

28.“The Invitation”oleh: Oriah

It doesn’t interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk
looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon…
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know
if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations
of being human.
It doesn’t interest me
if the story you are telling me
is true.
Saya ingin tahu jika anda boleh
mengecewakan orang lain
untuk menjadi benar kepada diri sendiri.
Kalau boleh tahan
tuduhan pengkhianatan
I want to know
jika anda boleh hidup dengan kegagalan
awak dan saya
dan masih berdiri di tepi tasik
dan berteriak kepada perak bulan purnama,
“Ya.”
It doesn’t interest me
It doesn’t interest me
It doesn’t interest me
di mana atau apa atau dengan siapa
anda telah belajar.
I want to know
apa yang mengekalkan anda
dari dalam
apabila semua yang lain jatuh.
I want to know
kalau boleh bersendirian
dengan diri awak
dan jika anda benar-benar suka
syarikat yang anda simpan
di saat-saat kosong.

29. “Cinta Berkahwin”oleh: Kuan Tao-sheng, diterjemahkan oleh Kenneth Rexroth dan Ling Chung

Awak dan saya
Have so much love,
That it
Burns like a fire,
In which we bake a lump of clay
Molded into a figure of you
And a figure of me.
Then we take both of them,
And break them into pieces,
And mix the pieces with water,
And mold again a figure of you,
And a figure of me.
I am in your clay.
You are in my clay.
In life we share a single quilt.
In death we will share one bed.
30. “A Blessing for Wedding”oleh: Jane Hirshfield

Today when persimmons ripen
Today when fox-kits come out of their den into snow
Today when the spotted egg releases its wren song
Today when the maple sets down its red leaves
Today when windows keep their promise to open
Today when fire keeps its promise to warm
Today when someone you love has died
or someone you never met has died
Today when someone you love has been born
or someone you will not meet has been born
Today when rain leaps to the waiting of roots in their dryness
Today when starlight bends to the roofs of the hungry and tired
Today when someone sits long inside his last sorrow
Today when someone steps into the heat of her first embrace
hari ini, let this light bless you
With these friends let it bless you
With snow-scent and lavender bless you
Let the vow of this day keep itself wildly and wholly
Spoken and silent, surprise you inside your ears
Sleeping and waking, unfold itself inside your eyes
Let its fierceness and tenderness hold you
Let its vastness be undisguised in all your days
